First variable slice test

By foxssic

I have ironed out most of the issues and bugs with the video slicing code in processing, so now I can actually start using it to see what can be produced. This is the first image:

video slicing eg 03

You can see the very obvious slices taken. They seem to mostly be around 20 pixels wide, so the camera is probably moving far too quickly. Also because it is hand-held footage the slices aren’t lining up too well either. Perhaps it’s worth taking a much slower pan using a tripod. I guess this is why Daniel Crookes uses a motion control rig.

For the moment I’ll try taking a few shorter passes where I’ll track the motion of features in a scene on a frame-by-frame basis to see if this gives any better results.

Aaaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhh! Managed to lose all the work I did on the processing sketch last night. Hadn’t saved my work for 5 hours or something equally stupid, like copying the wrong sketch across to my flash-drive.

Oh well. I know roughly which bits I changed, so it shouldn’t take too long to redo it all (command-shift-z on my mind).

Not so aaaarrrrggghhhhh – turns out I had the sketch at home, but I had deleted it from my flash drive (not sure if I recall doing it, but I must have).

Anyway, I now have 2 slightly different versions of the sketch which both work. My ancient computer at home cannot handle the video at too spritely a pace though so I won’t be doing any slicing and dicing there.
